I love my mum mugs!
The mum mugs my kids have given me over the years, plus the few I’ve bought myself are the treasured ones in my mug cupboard!
I’m a coffee lover, and am partial to a herbal tea, so generally, a nice mug is a must for me.
From November onwards in our extended family, we have a gazillion birthdays; enough to make me have to cancel Christmas due to lacking funds.
So, that’s why I am taking it upon myself to create some DIY gift options for the whole family.
And I thought mugs would be the perfect gift for everyone, all designed by me!
It’s So Easy To Design A Mum Mugs Collection…
There are plenty of places that you can get mugs printed, but I find using a mock up before that step helps me get the right design before I send it off to the printer.
I’ve used this mug mockup from Design Bundles – my absolute favourite place to get inspiration for fonts, graphics and illustrations.
You can also use the mock ups to dispay your mug designs in an online store.
Where Do We Start?
It’s so easy to design some slogans like I have, or you could use photos or drawings that your kids have done…
Think about the route you’d like to take, and then perhaps have a little look to see if you can get some inspiration online.
Find A Suitable Design Package
So, a design package like Photoshop would be ideal, but that’s not nessesary if you don’t have a copy.
I personally LOVE Canva.
I use it for everything; party invites, posters, infographics, banners, even for image editing. The use of graphics that make a single click to read more and a whole site interesting is exciting. If you have the skill along with creativity, you can do wonders.
It’s been in my Blogger toolkit for years, and it’s getting better and better.
There’s a free version, which is absolutely adequate for designing these mum mugs.
Designing Your Mum Mugs
If you’re keen on designing slogans like I have done, I think simple, short and snappy phrases are the most appealing.
I chose the following words/phrases:
- Strong
- Girls Support Girls
- Possibly Gin
- Mama
- Yummy
- Off Duty
Once you’ve got your phrases sorted, upload the mug mockups, and then layer text over the top.
Play around with lots of fonts and colours, and make sure your design is crisp and clean.
Et Voila, look what I created…

Now To Get Your Mum Mugs Made!
As I mentioned before, there are lots of reputable places to get your mug designs printed.
A quick google search will result in the best ones.
For a little bit of effort, and a few quid, you can get some awesome, personalised gifts made for Christmas, Easter, Teachers, Secret Santa, Birthdays and more.
At my ripe old age, I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t love a hot drink, so a mug would be a winner for probably 99.5% of my family and friends.
And to the 0.5%, they could use it to store their pens!
