I’m dropping by today to impart my wisdom to anyone who has struggled to find the best school shoes for active kids.
I have one child at school who since starting reception year, has battered the hell out of every pair of school shoes.
I honestly thought he must levitate around the playground on his tip toes, scuffing the crap out of every shoe he put on his feet.
One pair got so bad the whole sole fell off.
I went through a time where I didn’t know if this was something my dear child was particularly talented at, or whether it was a common problem!
Speaking to a couple of the parents at Fin’s school, it’s a common challenge for parents of active kids!
The Reason Why The School Shoes Were Dying An Untimely Death

So it turned out, Fin plays football in the playground and fields on all his break times.
No wonder his shoes come home caked in mud, wet, and scuffed.
If he plays as rough as he likes to play in our garden (basically kicking balls as hard as possible at walls), I suspect this might be what makes his shoes die young.
Introducing The Best School Shoes For Active Kids With The “Indestructable Guarantee!”

So, a couple of years ago, on my no-so-merry google sesh, I come across Treads.
(Yes, I am a personal customer of Treads, and I also had a free pair sent to me to publish my thoughts in this review – which is 100% honest. Promise.)
Treads shoes come with an Indestructible guarantee.
A what?
Yes, it’s in place to make you think… wait… can these shoes really be the answer to my prayers?
And I am here to tell you yes. Yes they are.
To anyone who has thrown money into every shoe shop and supermarket for the shoes to break a few weeks later, and for those parents with especially active kids, Treads are for you.
We are on our second pair (well, our latest pair has barely been worn due to the pandemic) of amazingly indestructable shoes.
I honestly have been to the end of my tether and back with regard to school shoes, and these are a lifesaver.
Treads and Fin are an absolute match made in heaven.
What Makes Treads The Best School Shoes For Active Kids?

Treads are constructed using a “strobel” technique where the upper is placed into a mould and the sole is then injected around it creating one unit without the need for any gluing. This not only creates a really strong bond but offers additional flexibility, perfect for active kids.
Treads
So, a moulded sole with no glue! Ok, that’s how they are so indestructable.
That’s what the issue was with all Fin’s previous school shoes; the glue was just not strong enough. Neither were the stitches.
Here’s a few words from the inventor of Treads shoes:
As a single parent raising children, its often one challenge after another. One major discovery was that my kids’ school shoes needed replacing on a regular basis, sometimes in a matter of weeks. Nothing seemed to last. If I spent £50 on an established high street brand there’d soon be holes in the uppers or straps coming off.
If I went down the cheaper option from the supermarket, the sole would remove itself from the shoe altogether with toes poking through.
Having worked in the shoe industry for many years, I knew the shoes I was buying were not fit for purpose and there had to be a better solution. So I got to work …
The Treads Story
Sounds like we’re seriously on the same page!
I LOVE it when there’s a relatable personal story behind a company.
Shoes invented by a fellow parent who experienced the same problem and endeavoured to fix it!

Dual Fit Technology

Removing the base underlayer will give the wearer a wider and deeper fit, which is perfect if you use orthotics or insoles.
This also means that you can get some extra wear out of them for your money – win win.
Fin’s Review Of His Indestructable School Shoes

My school shoes are very comfortable, and they feel good when I play football with my friends.
I like to have my school shoes on tight, so I pull the strap around as hard as it goes, then I can kick the football harder!
My old shoes used to get wet, because the sole had a hole in it, and one time it ripped straight off.
I have two pairs of school shoes just in case, because my dad forgets to take them out of his boot and drives off to work.
Ok, Fin didn’t write that last line, but it’s true 😀
The Best School Shoes For Active Kids

Ok, so there you have it.
School shoes that Fin and I both love.
He loves them because they make him play better football at school, and they don’t make his feet wet.
I love them because I only have to fork out £45 once a year and I know that they will last the entire school year (and beyond), and still look good!
Here’s the Treads Shoes site – I suggest you try them for yourself – you won’t be disappointed.

Great post, so relatable thank you! I have three football mad boys destroying shoes regularly! Our problem is that they are encouraged to bring trainers to change into for break times which is good and saves the school shoes! However trainers are being ripped to shreds on the field and also get soaking wet if grass is damp. Any recommendations for hard wearing waterproof/resistant trainers (football boots won’t cut it for this as they need to be able to run around on the play equipment and tarmac etc too) for really active kids?! Thanks
