Do struggle with parenting stress, tiredness and a low mood?
This can zap away at your energy levels and impact family life.
Parents will need to expertly juggle multiple tasks each day to raise their children in a healthy and happy environment.
In between cooking meals, embarking on the school run and bathing your kids, you might also need to contend with a busy career and seemingly endless household chores.
That’s why you MUST read these top tips on how to be kind to yourself, and cope with parenting stress:
Trim Your Commitments
If you are struggling to juggle multiple tasks each day, it might be time to trim down your commitments.
For example, avoid the pressure to participate in a school bake sale so that you can grab an early night, catch-up with a friend or enjoy quality time with your other half.
Learn to say “no” 🙂
Carry A Diary To Lower Your Parenting Stress Levels!
As you will need to tackle multiple tasks and organise various appointments, it can be easy to forget an important date or check-up.
Rather than relying on your memory, you should carry a diary and pen with you to note down:
- Loved ones’ birthdays or anniversaries
- Medical appointments
- Library book due dates
- Important school dates
As soon as a task is out of your brain and onto paper, this will help with your mental load!
Treat Yourself To A Massage
Believe it or not, there is a connection between your mind and body.
If your muscles are tense, you’ll likely feel stressed and anxious each day.
Rather than allowing the tension to build up further in your body, you should treat yourself to a much-deserved body massage.
My top tip would be to book more than 30 minutes – I find it takes me at least 30 minutes to fully relax and enjoy what’s happening!
Make Time To Reset And Let Your Parenting Stress levels Melt Away
While nothing will be more important than your kids’ happiness, you also shouldn’t neglect your own wellbeing.
It is crucial you make time for yourself.
It resets your mind and body, so you are bursting with energy the next day.
For example, once your children are in bed, you could:
Setting time aside for yourself will make you feel as though you’re more than a parent again.
Lean On Your Support System
Whenever you feel like parenting stress is getting the better of you (FYI – I feel like this so, so often!), you should attempt to lean on your loved ones for support.
For instance, if you are struggling to complete household chores, need to attend an appointment or long for some time for yourself, ask your parents, siblings or friends if they would be willing to mind your children for a few hours or more.
Also, if you are struggling with emotions, it might be beneficial to discuss your feelings with a trusted loved one.
They can offer much-needed advice and emotional support.
Your GP is also there to help, too.
The act of talking could be enough to release some of the worry and pressure you are carrying with you.
I always find talking things through with someone really helps to offload negative feelings or stress.
So, if you are feeling stressed out, you must set time aside to care for your mind and body.
Lean on your support system, reduce your commitments and carry a diary with you to manage your growing responsibilities.
Most of all, parenting is HARD.
Remember, it’s ok not to be ok.
