Moving home is always difficult, but it is much harder when you have kids. The process can be confusing and upsetting for children, so you will want to make sure that you can support your kids while still handling the move. Keeping this in mind, this article will provide a few tips that should help you execute a smooth and successful move while ensuring that you can look after the kids. Hopefully, this will help you all to settle into your new home and enjoy this exciting new chapter in your life.
Explain To Them What Is Happening
First, you need to be open and honest about what is happening. You should explain why you are moving home, explain what is going to happen, and focus on the positives. You should also encourage them to be open with their feelings and ask any questions that they have. Communication will be key at all stages during the move.
Visit The New Home With Them
You should also visit the new home with them so that they know what to expect and can start getting excited about the move. You could also explore the area and visit any places that will be of interest to them, such as any local parks.
Arrange Childcare For Moving Day
On the actual day of the move, it is best to arrange childcare. This could be asking a friend or family member to look after them or using childcare services. This will make the moving process much easier and less stressful for you and them. You will be able to fully focus on the task at hand, and they will not be exposed to the chaos and business of moving everything to the new home.
Hiring A Removal Company
Leading on from this, you can make moving a lot easier and less stressful by hiring a removal company. They can handle all of the heavy lifting for you and get all the boxes and furniture into your new home, giving you more time and energy to focus on other areas. It is understandable if you are looking to keep costs down, but doing the move yourself is not always practical and can create a lot of stress on the day. You can use platforms like Shiply to compare cheap removal companies, which will help you make savings on the move while getting all the heavy lifting done for you.
Get Their Room Set Up First
When it comes to unpacking, you should concentrate on getting your child’s bedroom set up first. This can make it a lot easier for them to settle in the new home and give them a comfortable space for spending time.
Moving with kids will always be difficult, but the advice in this post will hopefully help and allow you to make the move a little easier for all of you. Hopefully, this means that you can settle quickly and enjoy your new home together.

Childcare on move day is essential. And if it can be over night that is even more helpful. When we moved we planned for our children to come back at 5pm. We actually ended up changing this and they stayed at nanny as everything took longer than expected.
Don’t set yourself too much of a tight time schedule as it will just add unnecessary pressure to your day. If they are happy to stay over night then make the most of the time.
