Being a parent is hard work, but rewarding in so many ways. However, have you ever considered how you could earn money from sharing your knowledge and experience with other parents? Here are some suggestions, and the money you make could be used to treat your family.
Start a blog
Starting a parenting blog is becoming more common. Many parents, especially those who don’t know a lot of other people with children, want to know they’re not alone. It helps to have your own website rather than rely on a free site to launch your blog. This opens up the opportunities to monetise it.
Writing for parenting websites or magazines
If blogging doesn’t appeal to you, or you’d prefer writing for an established audience without having to find your own, you could try pitching to parenting websites or magazines. If you have a unique experience, such as looking after a childhood with an illness or disability, or something only certain parents will relate to, you could share this. Publications might welcome your knowledge because it’s less common, so help parents in a similar situation while raising awareness so other parents can understand.
Publish an eBook
If you build a successful blog or have several articles published, providing you own the rights to do this, you could publish them in an eBook, to reach more people. Alternatively, you could write in-depth about your experiences, in a way you can’t in blog posts or articles. With websites like KDP and Draft2Digital, it’s free to self-publish as an eBook, although you might need to spend money on editing and cover design.
Selling products aimed at parents or their children
If you’ve built up an audience through blogging or writing articles, you could start to sell items relevant to the topics you write about. For example, if you’ve discovered that something makes your life easier as a parent or helps your child, you could buy in bulk and make a profit selling these to other parents.
Becoming an affiliate
If you don’t want to risk investing in bulk buying a specific product, or are concerned it may not sell, you could still make money. As an affiliate, you can earn a commission on the sales of other people’s products. There’s no outlay, and you can pick only the items which are most relevant to you and your blog or website. If you go back through your posts, you will see where you can naturally insert affiliate links to help your readers, rather than looking like you’re selling out.
Parents can forget how valuable their experience is. However, by sharing this with other parents, you can help them, and make money to look after your own family too.
