Some kids love nothing more than watching their iPad and playing computer games on a lovely summer’s day, right?! It can be difficult to get them to go outside and play in the fresh air. Here are some garden ideas kids will love that will encourage them to enjoy the great outdoors.
Garden Swing
Swings may be an old-fashioned idea, but the kids still love them.
Putting a swing in the garden doesn’t take a lot of time, and they are quite easy to put together.
You could create one yourself if you have a tree in the back garden. All you will need is some rope and something to use for a seat.
Kids will love helping you design and build their very own swing and they will get a lot of use out of it for very little money.
This is a really cost-effective way of keeping the kids entertained in the school holidays and weekends.
Swing Ball Is A Garden Idea Kids Will Love
Swing ball is a great game for kids and adults alike.
It will help the kids with their co-ordination and ball control skills.
This game involves batting a ball that is attached to a post between two players.
The game does not take up a lot of space, which is great if you have a small garden, or they are playing in a confined space such as outside a holiday villa or caravan.
The best thing about this game is that the ball does not leave the post, so there will be no hunting for lost balls or complaints from neighbours about the ball coming into their gardens or breaking windows.
This will give the kids hours of competitive fun in the garden.
Pirate Ship
If you are good at carpentry, why not build a pirate ship deck for the kids?
They will love getting involved in this project, including the planning, building and painting stages.
They will then have hours of fun knowing that they are playing on something they got involved in a family project to help create.
If the kids don’t fancy a pirate ship, how about a playhouse or train instead? The possibilities are endless and this is one of many garden ideas kids will love!
Garden Ideas Kids Will Love: Build An Art Area
If your kids are artistic, how about creating an area dedicated to their love of art?
You can give them their own section of patio to draw on using chalk.
Set up an easel with paints or felt tips for them in one section so that they can draw to their heart’s content.
This will encourage them to have fun outside and the great news for you is that it confines a lot of the mess associated with their artistic endeavours to outside the house.
Kids Will Love A Herb Garden
Why not teach the kids to love plants by creating their very own herb garden?
They will love to watch their herbs grow and taking care of them. Let them water their herbs and show them how to pick them once they are ready to eat.
This could give them a food growing skill that they could use for the rest of their lives.
Being able to use their very own herbs for cooking will encourage them to eat healthily too.
This is a win/win for children and adults alike.
Build A Fishpond
A fishpond could be a fantastic way of teaching kids about wildlife. Let them choose the fish they want to keep and encourage them to look after them, as this will help them develop a love of animals and nature too.
They can enjoy nurturing the animals and giving them names as well as helping to feed and take care of them.
They will enjoy watching the fish swim around and see frogspawn turn into frogs in the springtime.
Make sure the pond is shallow and put netting over the top to keep them safe around the water and to keep predators away.
Create A Seaside Area
The kids will love the feeling of being at the seaside if you recreate it in the garden. A strong wooden or plastic box can be filled with sand to make a sandpit.
Use old toys or kitchen implements you no longer need to make shapes or use as digging utensils.
Work with them by pulling up a sun lounger to watch them from or help them build the world’s biggest sandcastle.
Use these ideas and the kids will never want to leave the garden. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
