Most parents are sleep-deprived, especially in the first year or so of parenthood. It may seem as if you will never get your full eight hours again, and your skin is the one suffering for it. Before you reach for the makeup bag, try these simple tricks to help your skin look great regardless of how much sleep you had the night before.
Drink More Water
Natural remedies are the best for your skin. The secret to glowing skin lies in your lifestyle. The effects of dehydration can often show in your face first as it tends to lead to breakouts and blemishes. However, drinking enough water will make your face look fresher and take years off your age. You may not need that concealer stick after all if you make yourself drink eight glasses of water per day.
Don’t Drink Too Much Caffeine
Drinking too much caffeine can make your skin look grey and dehydrated. It can cause other health problems too, so it is best to steer clear of too much of it. A strong coffee may wake you up in the mornings, but this will soon make your energy levels plummet. If you want a hot drink in the morning, green tea can help you feel refreshed without filling your body full of caffeine.
Exercise
This may be the last thing you feel like doing if you have been up with the kids during the night. Your body won’t encourage you to spend two hours at the gym, but you can cheat your way to a good exercise programme. Walking to the shops rather than taking the car, or playing in the park with the kids will give you the exercise you need without your body feeling like you are punishing it. Making it easier to exercise may sound like hard work, but if you can achieve this, your skin will thank you for it.
Don’t Neglect Your Skincare Routine
Sticking to your skincare routine and not flopping into bed exhausted leaving your makeup on your face takes discipline. However, this can make a difference in whether or not you wake up with blocked pores and are more susceptible to blemishes and dry skin. Your skincare routine is important, so remember to cleanse, tone, and moisturise regularly. This will help your skin to glow and look youthful.
Get a Little Help
If you have tried all the above and still feel that you need a little help, then don’t be afraid to ask for it. It can be hard to keep your skin looking its best if you have been up with the kids for a large portion of the night. However, it is not impossible and many of the best ways of caring for your skin can be slipped easily into your daily routine without too much effort.
