To those who know me, I am terrible with reading. I can only ‘read’ audio books. I’ve never managed to finish reading a book. Weird isn’t it! But the beauty of the illustrations and messaging in children’s books really inspires me.
I love the thought of educating and inspiring my children whilst reading them books.
Children’s books that evoke kindness, open-mindedness and thinking big are my bag.
As an entrepreneur, I love to teach my kids that they can be anything they want to be if they work hard enough at it, and I love to read them books that back that up.
So, with all that in mind, we will regularly share the children’s books that make us tick.
First up…
Goodnight World

What we thought of Together…
We loved the sentiment of this book.
The illustrations are beautiful, and we just love the calming feel of the story.

Beau (2) particularly liked this interactive book.
The way the book invites the reader to take part in the story and affect the outcome is really nice.

This is a fun story!
I liked the fact that it showcases real emergencies like a BBQ on fire and a burst water pipe, rather than the ridicously unrealistic superhero tales we see on screen.
This is somehow relatable and almost makes it seem like a real tale.

This book is one of the most beautiful looking books we own.
This is one that gets shown on the fancy book rack!
The story is lovely, and teaches children about sea creatures and ocean adventures.

The perfect pants are hard to find for someone shaped like me.
Could octopants be just the job?

Anything to do with pants and it’s a hit here.
We love the illustrations, and the faces on the characters make the kids laugh. They have funny expressions!
Octopants is an engaging book; you can linger on the pages for ages thanks to the detailed and colourful illustrations.
The River, an epic journey to the sea

The kids love this story, and we enjoy looking at all the creatures, talking about the different scenes as the river flows through.

When Wolf, Owl and Moose hear scary noises coming from the forest, they quiver and quake.

I had not heard of any of these books but I love the concept of using them to teach kindness. I think they would make perfect bedtime stories to help kids focus on those very important concepts before falling asleep at night!

Ah man, this is why I love children’s books. They are so impactful, creative, yet simple, and colorful! It’s super important we’re mindful of what values our children are learning early on.

My students pair with the those in the younger grades to encourage reading. I think we may do that aspect virtually this year, but it will still be fun. I am always on the lookout for quality books.
