Big birthdays are always hard to buy gifts for. These momentous occasions come around so infrequently, that it’s not really something we get to practise enough to get good at. However, there’s one thing that often works – going for an unusual gift. For some tips on unusual ideas, read on, whether you need 50th birthday ideas or ideas for a centenarian.
A hot air balloon ride
If you’re really looking for something special and unusual, why not give a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with a hot air balloon ride? This is a unique and exciting way to celebrate a big birthday, and take in stunning views from above. Obviously, it’s highly weather dependent, but seeing the land from above in that way on a sunny day is truly an experience to remember.
A trip to a tropical island
If you can swing it with your budget, why not give the gift of a tropical vacation with a trip to an exotic island? A trip to the Maldives is a very easy trip that doesn’t need much planning. This could include activities such as snorkelling, scuba diving, surfing, and island hopping – if you can arrange it so that you get to go along for the trip as well, even better!
A cooking class
If the recipient really likes to make delicious meals, consider a cooking class. This could be a class that focuses on a particular cuisine, or it could be a hands-on class where they can learn to cook a new dish, like fresh pasta or sushi.
A photography class
Give the gift of a photography class, to the person in your life who absolutely loves taking pictures. This could be a class that focuses on a particular aspect of photography, such as landscape or portrait photography, or a more general class on techniques.
A trip to a music festival
If the recipient is a big music fan, why not go to a music festival together and see some great bands? This could be a weekend trip to a local festival, or a week-long trip to a larger festival such as Coachella or Glastonbury – whatever you choose, you’ll be sure to make wonderful memories.
A skydiving or bungee jumping experience
If you’re looking to get a gift for someone who just loves to go big in every way possible, then give the gift of a true adrenaline rush with a skydiving or bungee jumping experience. This is a great way to celebrate a big birthday, and step (literally) out of one’s comfort zone!
A VIP experience
Get the recipient of a VIP experience, such as front-row concert tickets, a meet-and-greet with a celebrity, or a behind-the-scenes tour of a famous attraction. This can be an especially good gift if that’s not the kind of thing they’d normally get for themself.
All in all, an unusual gift for a big birthday should be something that is unique, exciting, and tailored to the person’s interests and needs. Unusual gifts are a great way to create lasting memories, and make the occasion extra special. These gifts will not only be cherished by the recipient, but will also be a great way for them to step out of their comfort zone, and try something new and exciting.
